According to a WhatsApp message sent to a meat shop owner, the shops were asked to close from Saturday to April 12 to prevent people gathering in front of them in large numbers, as was witnessed last weekend. The meat shop owner who received the message from a local Health official said that the official had warned him of regular inspections.“A circular may be issued to the shops. If the shops found open and selling meat of any kind, the shops will be sealed apart from imposing fine,” the message read.
When contacted, a Corporation official said an order was getting ready and would be issued before the end of the day. However, as the civic body did not release the said order, the media began contacting senior officials, including Corporation Commissioner G Prakash.
He said all the mutton, chicken and fish stalls would be closed on April 6 on account of Mahavir Jayanthi.
