They have helped nine teenagers, including two girls, from poor financial background to get admission in government aided colleges. “We are thankful to principals of all the colleges – Quaid-e- Millath College in Medavakkam, Government Arts College in Perumbakkam, Mohamed Sathak College in Sholinganallur, JainCollege in Thoraipakkam and Annai Velankanni College – for agreeing to help these kids,” said MS Muthuswamy, Deputy Commissioner, St Thomas Mount.
The Deputy Commissioner and Morarji Desai, the founder of Turning Point Educational Trust, worked together to get admissions for the students. According to Morarji Desai, his trust has been working with the slum children to provide them vocational training and right guidance to pursue higher education. “DC Muthuswamy was very proactive when we approached him for the help,” he added.
“I attended tuition classes arranged by the Turning Point Educational Trust and that is how I came in touch with the trust, which helped me in getting the college admission,” said Praveen Kumar.
Apart from Praveen Kumar, C Nandhakumar, Vignesh, S Hariharan, A Suriya, M Dinesh, M Harish, M Lalitha and E Keerthana are joining the college with the help of police officials and the trust.
