CMRL schools passengers on Metro Manners

CHENNAI: To promote responsible and safe commuting in Metro trains, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) conducted a campaign titled, ‘Metro Manners – Smart Travel, Safe Travel’ at Metro stations in the city on Monday to promote responsible commuting in trains.

The campaign’s goal was to create a passenger awareness and also promote safe, courteous, and disciplined travel and to enhance the overall commuter experience.

As per a press note from CMRL, it aimed to encourage simple practices that contribute to orderly passenger movement and a pleasant journey experience. “The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from passengers, volunteers, and CMRL staff, highlighting the importance of responsible commuter behaviour,” stated CMRL press note.

Student volunteers also took part as CMRL civic ambassadors. As part of the initiative, CMRL collaborated with NCC units. A total of 25 NCC cadets were deployed at Alandur Metro Station on Monday. Designated as CMRL civic ambassadors, they interacted with passengers and promoted good commuting practices, helping to ensure smooth and orderly movement during the morning peak hours.

The campaign emphasised the following important practices: allow passengers to alight before boarding, keep train doors clear and unobstructed, do not cross the yellow line while waiting on the platform, follow the ‘Stand Left, Walk Right’ practice while using escalators, use headphones for personal audio and video entertainment.

CMRL confirmed that the initiative would be expanded to other stations in phases.
