Cadre from other parties join AIADMK

Functionaries of various parties including DMK and TMC on Thursday joined AIADMK in the presence of party supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

An AIADMK release said DMK district propaganda committee head S Kanmani, State women’s wing deputy secretary G Vijayakumari, Tiruvannamalai district Chetupattu union and former DMK secretary C Elumalai, former DMK Tiruvannamalai West district youth wing deputy organiser E Senthilkumar, TMC Tiruvallur west district youth wing head advocate Himalaya K Arun Prasad, comedian ‘Bonda’ Mani alias M Ketheeswaran, were some of the prominent people who joined the AIADMK. Kanyakumari’s late leader Marshal Nesamani’s grandson W Ranjith Apolos Nesamani also joined AIADMK. Jayalalithaa admitted them into the party fold and gave them the membership card. 

CM condoles her teacher’s death 

Chief Minister on Thursday grieved on the passing away of her teacher Catherine Simon of Presentation Convent, Church Park in the city. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said Catherine had dedicated her life to the noble profession of teaching. “As a student of Presentation Convent, I had the good fortune of being her student from 1958 to 1964. She was a great influence on my life and we shared a very special relationship as a teacher and student. Catherine Simon was an inspiration to generations of girl students who came into contact with her in the Convent,” she said.

Jaya’s gesture to destitute woman 

On Thursday, the CM also sanctioned funds for the welfare of a physically-challenged destitute woman Muthulakshmi from Tirumullaivoil. An AIADMK release said that the woman, who was separated from husband due to her immobility after an accident, had requested the Chief Minister to lend a helping hand. Jayalalithaa invited Muthulakshmi to her Poes Garden residence and handed over Rs 25,000 to her on Thursday from the ‘Puratchi Thalaivi Best Charitable Trust’, besides making arrangements to get an artificial limb and set up a tailoring unit with five motorised sewing machines for her livelihood.
