Aid handed over to Govardhanam

Tamil Nadu government on Sunday handed over a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to famous musician R Govardhanam, who has been ailing for some time.

A few days ago, AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced financial aid to the musician after he made a request to her. Accepting his request, Jayalalithaa said 10 lakh would be placed as fixed deposit from the Dr MGR Trust in the name of Govardhanam from which  he would earn a monthly interest of Rs 8,125. In line with her announcement, the cheque was handed over to him on Sunday. 

Also, a sum of Rs 10,000 was given to the musician for this month’s expenses.  State Minister and Salem suburban district secretary of the AIADMK Edapadi Palanisamy along with MLA Semmalai, and other AIADMK leaders visited Govardhanam’s house and handed over the cheque (to be deposited in the bank) and the cash.  The musician thanked Jayalalithaa.
