Expressing shock over the decision that was taken without taking the bar into confidence, MHAA president G Mohanakrishnan said the city has the special privilege of having a combined court complex for a long time. It should be preserved with modern improvements as advocates were practicing both in the Madras High Court as well as courts situated in the City Civil Court buildings, he said.

Pointing out that the courts in the same compound enabled the advocates to conduct their cases in all the courts with ease, he said they would be put to hardship due to shifting of the courts to Allikulam complex.

“We would have been keen to express the practical difficulties if consultations were held with the association before initiating the move to shift the courts to Allikulam Complex, where there are no facilities and is predominantly a commercial complex,” Mohanakrishnan said.

The explanation that it was only a makeshift arrangement until the construction of the Egmore Court Complex was completed could not be a reason to use the Allikulam premises much to the inconvenience of all stakeholders, he added, stressing the need for a discussion to enable them provide some workable solutions.
