Darasuram market sealed after UP lorry driver tests COVID positive

To avoid a Koyambedu cluster-like situation in Thanjavur, the Darasuram market in Kumbakonam, the biggest wholesale market here, was closed down on Monday after a lorry driver, who transported vegetables, tested COVID positive. A total of 500 vendors have undergone testing and their results are awaited. The administration has identified a ground at Valaiyapettai bypass to set up a temporary market. On May 8, a 37-year-old lorry driver from UP was transporting potatoes from Mettupalayam to Darasuram market. Since he came from another district, he was taken for COVID-19 testing and his results came out positive. He was admitted to Thanjavur medical college.
