Narendra Modi greets Nadda, who was unanimously elected BJP president

New Delhi

Fifty nine-year-old Nadda, who was nominated as BJP working president in June last year after the BJP-led NDA came to power for the second time, was declared elected unanimously President for a term of three years from 201922. He is largely expected to continue with the course it took under Shah with Modi laying out the broader agenda.
The Delhi Assembly election is the first challenge for Nadda, who has been touring the capital extensively as the Bharatiya Janata Party works overtime to oust the Aam Aadmi Party from power.
“The formal process of election of President of BJP for 2019-22 has come to an end. Mr Jagat Prakash Nadda has been elected unanimously as President. I declare him elected as President of BJP for 2019-22,” said Returning Officer for the election Radhamohan Singh, former Agriculture Minister and MP from Bihar.
Modi later arrived at the party headquarters to felicitate the newly-elected president at a ceremony that was attended by members of the BJP parliamentary board, its highest body, and veterans like L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi. Earlier, Shah was joined by senior party leaders, including Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, besides several functionaries from State units.
Defeated in polls, Oppn spreading falsehood: Modi
Facing protests on issues like CAA and NRC, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused the Opposition of spreading “falsehoods and lies” against the government after being rejected in the elections and said there was need to reach out to people directly as the media was not “with us”.

Speaking at a function to felicitate J P Nadda, the newly-elected President of BJP at the party headquarters, he said the BJP is not here for a temporary time but has come to serve the people for a long time.

At the function held shortly after Nadda’s unopposed election, it was repeatedly emphasised how in a party like BJP an ordinary worker could become its President as opposed to dynastic successions in other parties.

“There are people who dislike the principles which guide us. Our problems are not because we are doing something wrong...it is the people of the country who are blessing us. Those rejected by the public in the elections are left with a few weapons.....to spread lies and falsehood, give a new shape and colour everyday.

“We are seeing this continuously. Media will not support us. We are not dependent on them. We need to have a direct dialogue with the people, with the family of a common man,” Modi said.

He expressed confidence and hope that Nadda will be successful in his tenure.

People of Bihar will be happy on Nadda’s rise
He said while people of Himachal Pradesh will be happy with Nadda’s rise, it will be people of Bihar who will be more happy as he had spent his earlier years in Patna where he studied in school and college.
He said he was extremely proud that in BJP while there has been horizontal growth of the organisation, there was also vertical growth of the ordinary workers.
Under Amit Shah, the BJP grew to become the world’s largest party and found a place in the hearts of the people.
Extremely grateful to the party: Nadda
In his speech, Nadda said he was extremely grateful to the party and the Prime Minister for having reposed faith in him for leading the world’s biggest political outfit.
Newly-elected President assured the leaders and the cadre of the party that he would do his best take the party to new excellence.
Referring to Amit Shah’s speech, Nadda said the party has still to spread to some states where the lotus was yet to bloom. “We will be successful,” he said.
In his speech, Shah described Nadda as an ordinary worker who has been elected President following the traditions set by the party where there is no place for caste or dynastic rule. “Under Nadda we have to reach new heights. Even now we have to carve out new electoral victories and expand even at the booth level.” he said.
“Modi is constructing a new India and the party should also join in this task,” he said.
