    Life returned to normal in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday after remaining hit by violence amid protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on December 19.

    Meanwhile, with two injured succumbing to their injuries in Meerut and Firozabad, the number of people killed in the violence now stands at 21. The violence claimed six and four lives in Meerut and Firozabad, respectively, sources said.

    Police is taking strict action against those who tried to disturb peace while posters of the anti-social elements have been put up in state capital Lucknow and Gorakhpur.

    As many as 2,500 people have so far been arrested in connection with the violence while over 5,000 people have been arrested as a precautionary measure.
