But, as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi's quote, “There are no failures in science.” Events of Chandrayan-2 takes us back to India’s first successful lunar mission, Chandrayan-1. Chandrayan-1 earned India, its pride in International space science, through its ground-breaking achievements.
Launched on October 22, 2018, Chandrayan-1 successfully hoisted India’s national flag on the lunar surface. The mission was a pioneer for India’s Mangalyaan mission (Mars Orbiter Mission).
- India became the first country in the world to find traces of water on moon.
- The spacecraft detected traces of Aluminium, Silicon and Magnesium on surfaces of moon.
- Chandrayan-1 also found water ice in the moon’s North polar region.
Chandrayan-1 achieved almost 95% of its mission objectives, though it was operated for only 312 days. The mission was officially ended on August 29, 2009, due to persistent technical failures. Though the mission was short-lived, it gave the scientists of ISRO, a vision for their next lunar mission. Chandrayan-2 has been a proud and learning mission for India. The entire nation today, stands by India for their impeccable efforts put up for days and nights.
