Lucknow
A day after the Uttar Pradesh government shunted out the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sonebhadra district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warned that anyone who tries to fiddle with law and order in the state will not be spared.
"Let me assure you once again that those who play with law and order of the state will not be spared under any condition. No matter how big they are," Adityanath tweeted on Monday.
Besides removal of the DM and the SP, the Chief Minister ordered action against 13 other officials after they were indicted in a Special Investigation Team inquiry into the killing of 10 Gond tribals last month over a land dispute in Sonebhadra. The SIT submitted its report to the government last week.
S. Ramalingam has been made the new District Magistrate and Prabhakar Chaudhary the new Superintendent of Police of Sonebhadra.
The state government has also formed a six-member committee under Upper Chief Revenue Secretary Renuka Kumar to investigate the tragedy. The committee will file its report in three months.
