    ‘Don’t raise retirement age’

    Puducherry unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Thursday condemned the government for its reported move to enhance the retirement age of government teachers to 65.

    DYFI President Anand and Secretary Saravanan in a statement said more than two lakh educated youths have registered themselves with the employment exchange here for jobs. As many as 7,500 posts are vacant in government departments and at a time when youths are waiting for jobs, the move of the government to enhance the retirement age of teachers from 62 to 65 need to be condemned, they said. Stating that this move will deprive the youths their right to employment, they urged the government to drop the move forthwith and demanded steps be taken to fill up the 7,500 vacant posts through the employment exchange.
