As the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the lone Puducherry Lok Sabha seat in this Union Territory came into force, Chief Minister, Ministers and Legislators surrendered their official vehicles.

District Election Officer and District Magistrate Arun imposed a ban on the use of loud speakers between 10 pm and 6 am and cautioned of stringent action against the violators. All posters, banners, hoardings and wall writings were removed, a team led by Tahsildar Rajesh Khanna locked and sealed some cracker manufacturing units at Thavalakuppam and Idayarpalayam areas here and also locked the offices of the legislators in their respective constituencies. Four liquor godowns, which have not installed CCTV cameras, were also locked and sealed.
