BJP says widespread corruption behind postponement of plastic ban
BJP Puducherry Unit President and MLA (Nominated) V Saminathan on Friday alleged that there was widespread corruption behind the postponement of ban on plastic in the Union Territory.

In a statement, Saminathan said the Congress government here had announced that a ban on plastic would be enforced from March 1.
“However, Welfare Minister Kandasamy on Thursday said that it is being postponed by a week. People have alleged that there is a transaction of several crores of rupees in this postponement,” he said.
“While Tamil Nadu has successfully implemented the plastic ban, Puducherry is becoming a hub for plastic sale. Plastic which could not be recycled is being produced here,” Saminathan said, adding that Chief Minister V Narayanasamy needs to be condemned for the failure to implement his order.
“It seems that there are some ulterior motives as the government is stepping back on its orders issued by it,” he said, demanding a response from Narayanasamy since allegations of accepting bribe from plastic manufacturers have cropped up.
The BJP leader alleged that the Chief Minister distributed government money from his relief fund to over 10,000 Congress party workers in his Nellithope constituency.
“The Assembly session beginning here tomorrow should discuss issues like these,” he added.
