The parents of Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured by Pakistan, are scheduled to leave for Delhi after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that he would be released on Friday, 1 March.

Wing Commander Abhinandan is scheduled to be flown from Islamabad to Lahore by tomorrow afternoon. The pilot is expected to be handed over to Indian authorities at Wagah border post.

Reports suggest that Pakistan wants to hand over the Indian pilot formally during the Beating Retreat Ceremony.

According to sources, he will be then escorted in an IAF convoy to Amritsar Air base from where he will be flown to New Delhi.

The Wagah-Attari joint check-post is around 30 km from Amritsar.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in a tweet appealed to Modi govt that he would like to receive the Wing Commander at the Wagah border.
