Cabinet approves AIIMS in Madurai
The Union Cabinet on Monday approved establishment of two new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) — one each in Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
New Delhi
The AIIMS in Tamil Nadu would come up in Madurai at a cost of Rs 1,264 crore, while the Telangana facility would be built at Bibinagar at a cost of Rs 1,028 crore, an official statement said. The two new institutes will be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. “Setting up of the new AIIMS would not only transform health education and training but also address the shortfall of health care professionals in the region,” the statement said.
