The meeting lasted for nearly 50 minutes.

The Congress on Thursday night had named Kamal Nath as Madhya Pradesh's next chief minister after hours of hectic parleys held by the party chief Rahul Gandhi with senior party leaders.

He will be heralding the Congress' rule in the state after 15 years. He was formally chosen as the leader of the state Congress Legislature Party late on Thursday after he flew back here from Delhi following Gandhi's decision on his name over the other aspirant, Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The party snatched victory in the polls on Wednesday securing 114 seats in a tussle that went down to the wire, but still fell short by two seats to touch the halfway-mark in the 230-member assembly.

With the support of a total of 121 MLAs, including SP - 1 and BSP - 2 legislators as also of four independents, Congress crossed the majority mark of 116 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which ruled the state for 15 years, got 109 seats in the elections.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Lal Parade Ground around 1.30 pm.
