ABVP demands CBI probe into student’s death
Akhila Bharathiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members in Pondicherry University on Monday demanded a CBI probe into the death of V Ramesh, a second year Civil Engineering student of Mt Zion College, Pudukkottai.
Puducherry
The ABVP said a CBI probe should be held to get immediate justice to Ramesh and his family.
ABVP President Dileepan and Secretary Lalkrishna in a release here said, the body of Ramesh was found on a railway track near Zion college on October 3, 2018 in a suspicious circumstance. Even after two months of his death, the post-mortem report has not been handed over to his family which by itself raises lot of doubts.
Further, the case is still pending before the Railway Police, instead of being investigated by the state police, they said.
As the student belongs to a Dalit community a case has been registered under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. However, no one was arrested till now and the ABVP condemns the reluctant attitude of the Tamil Nadu police and state government.
Six ABVP functionaries are on a 24-hour fast to press their demand, they said.
