Speaker PK Amaty announced early closure of the winter session of the House after accepting a motion moved by the Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy.

Satpathy said that the government feels early adjournment of the House would be appropriate as there was no pending official business to transact.

The winter session of the state assembly had begun on November 16 and was scheduled to continue till December 15.

The session had 23 workdays, of which the House could be conducted only for five days.

Of the five workdays, four were disrupted due to uproar by the Opposition on the issue of farmers, felling of trees for a brewery in Dhenkanal, utilisation of the Tribal Development Fund, minimum support price of paddy and slashing of the post-Matric scholarship fund for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) students by the Centre.

During the session, the House had adopted a resolution for keeping 33 per cent reservation for women in state assemblies and Parliament.
