Seven Pondy schools bag cleanliness award
Union Territory of Puducherry has bagged the top spot in the country in the Swachh Vidayalaya National award for 2017-18.

Talking to news persons here on Monday, Chief Minister V Narayanasmay said a total of 727 schools including government schools and government aided schools besides private schools competed for the Swachh Vidayalaya National award for the last fiscal. Of this, only 52 schools qualified for the National competition and Puducherry bagged the top position by securing seven prizes.
While, Puducherry district bagged five prizes, Karaikal bagged two prizes. Koonichampet Government Primary School scored 100 marks and secured first position in the country. The other six schools scored 98 to 92.5 per cent marks, he said.
Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javedkar would give away the awards at a function to be held in New Delhi on September 18.
Each school will get a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a certificate, Narayanasamy said.
Dental college nurses sit-in affects services
Functioning of services of the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College and Hospital was affected as the nurses resorted to a sit-in-strike on Monday to press their demands.
They were demanding among other things the immediate disbursement of their pending salary for the past four months and the implementation of seventh pay commission recommendations to them.
