While paying homage to the late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the nation remembered the ‘missile man’ who is fondly called as the 'People's President' on his third death anniversary.

Born in a poor fisherman family on October 15, 1931 in Rameswaram, Dr APJ Kalam served as the 11th President of India (2002 – 2007). Kalam still remains as an inspiration to millions through his books and his simple way of living.

After graduating from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1960, Kalam joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The 'missile man' played an important role in the Pokhran-II nuclear tests done during 1998 and was also associated with India's space program and missile development program.

In the honour of the late scientist, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated a memorial for APJ Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram last year.
