Get set for wet spell as Meteorological Department warns of heavy rain
Heavy rain at isolated places is also expected over north Haryana, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Konkan and Goa, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep and coastal Karnataka, it said.
New Delhi
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in large parts of India, including several places in Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Gujarat, over the next few days until Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
That Tamil Nadu is also included in the IMD’s heavy rain warning list comes as a surprise given that large swathes of the state are perennially starved of rain during the Southwest monsoon season due to their location in the rain shadow region.
The IMD warned of heavy to very heavy rain at a few places in the country, with extremely heavy rainfall at some places very likely over Uttarakhand and east Uttar Pradesh. The warning comes days after the IMD said the monsoon has covered the entire country, 17 days ahead of its normal onset date.
The IMD warned of heavy to very heavy rain, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday. Heavy to very heavy rain is also expected at some places over east UP, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar.
Heavy rain at isolated places is also expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, north Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Konkan and Goa, Rayalaseema, coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, it added.
The IMD, in its warning for Wednesday, said heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely in isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya and Konkan and Goa.
