All trains will chug on Saturday in the Kashmir valley, a railway official told UNI this morning.

Train service remained suspended for the second day on Friday for security reasons in south Kashmir, where two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian on Wednesday.

A youth was also killed and two women injured in alleged security force firing during demonstrations near the encounter site.

We have resumed all train runs in south Kashmir today and train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar to Anantnag, Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

This was the sixth time the train service was suspended in south Kashmir in January, 2018.

However, service was not affected in north Kashmir and train run continued on Srinagar-Badgam to Baramulla in north Kashmir as per schedule on Thursday.  However, on Friday train services in north Kashmir were also suspended. This the first time train in north Kashmir was suspended in January this year.

He said an advisory was received from police to suspend all train runs in the Kashmir valley on Friday.

We are acting on the advice of state administration and police, he said adding rail authorities have no role in it.

Train service in the Kashmir valley has become very popular which is being considered very cheap, safe and fast against other mode of transport service available to people.

Last year train service was fully or partially suspended for more than 50 times in the valley for security reasons.
