Four Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) fidayeen were killed by security forces in a joint operation in Uri sector of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid said that the Army, state police and Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) launched a joint operation at Dulajna, Uri, early this morning after a group of militants infiltrated into this side from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).
When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said, adding that security forces also retaliated ensuing a fierce encounter.
Initially three militants were killed. Later, the fourth was also gunned down, Dr Vaid said.
The militants were planning to carry out a fidayeen attack on security forces.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Dr Vaid said, "Three suicidal JeM terrorists killed in Dulanja Uri while infiltrating in a joint operation by @JmuKmrPolice / Army / CAPF. Search for the fourth terrorist is still on.
" The fourth terrorist has also been neutralised. Keep up the good work", he further tweeted.
