Poll panel to ensure glitch-free EVMs
The state election commission has outrightly rejected allegations that electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in the recently-held civic elections in Uttar Pradesh were hacked or manipulated.

Discounting conspiracy theories, chief electoral officer L. Venkateshwar Lu said measures were being taken to ensure that no glitches occur in EVMs in the next Lok Sabha elections scheduled for 2019.
Lu clarified that the EVMs pass through four levels of screening before they are installed at the polling booths. In the 2019 general elections, all voters would be able to verify their choice of vote through the voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines.
He said that verification of voter list was started on December 26 and people whose names were missing from the list could now get their names included. Booth-level officers would go from house to house to ensure that names of all voters are included in the list. People could also directly approach the election commission's officials to get their names included in voter list, he added.
