    Restrictions in SeK, downtown Srinagar lifted

    Curfew-like restrictions, imposed in the Shehar-e-Khas, downtown and parts of civil lines and old city Srinagar were lifted on Thursday, a day after its imposition.

    According to police, there are no restrictions in any part of the summer capital, Srinagar today. Restrictions under Section 144 CrPC had been imposed in the SeK and downtown areas falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations of MR Gunj, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta, Khanyar and Rainawari since Wednesday morning to maintain law and order. Besides similar restrictions were imposed in some areas under the jurisdiction of police station Kralkhud and Maisum.

    The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwgaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik had called for a general strike yesterday against the killing of two civilians, including a woman, in alleged security force firing.

    The main gates of historic Jamia Masjid, stronghold of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz, are open and devotees are offering prayers. However, no prayers could be offered yesterday due to restrictions in the area.

    Barbed wire and other road blocks have been removed and shops and business establishments are open and traffic is plying normally in these areas. Vegetable sellers and milkmen, who had come from outskirts, were doing their normal business since early this morning.

    Roads leading to Maisuma, which were closed with barbed wire, yesterday are open today. Shops and other business establishments were open and traffic was plying on all routes in the city normally.
