Quake measuring 5.5 hits Rudraprayag, tremors in north India
Tremors were also felt in Roorkee and Dehradun in Uttarakhand and parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Many people stepped out of their buildings after the tremors, according to reports here.

Tremors were felt in several parts of North India as a medium-intensity earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale hit Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district today, the India Meteorological Department said.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the tremor, which occurred at 2050 hrs, was epicentred at Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand. It had focal depth of 30 km and occurred at 30.4 degree North Latitude and 79.1 degree East Longitude.According to the IMD's National Seismological Centre, the quake occurred at 8:49 pm.
Tremors were also felt in Roorkee and Dehradun in Uttarakhand and parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Many people stepped out of their buildings after the tremors, according to reports here.
Uttarakhand, a part of the Himalayan region, falls under a high seismic zone.
There were no reports of loss of property or life.
