Two militants killed in Sopore encounter
The security forces receiving information about the presence of militants in Shankar Gund area on the outskirts of Sopore town were preparing to cordon off and search the place when the incident occurred, police said.

Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore township of north Kashmir's Baramulla district today, the police said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in Check-e-Brath area of Sopore, security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) there, a police official said.
He said as the forces were conducting the search operation, the militants fired upon them.
The forces retaliated, resulting in an encounter in which two militants were killed, the official said.
He said the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is being ascertained.
The operation is on, the official added.
Security forces launched a search operation in a north Kashmir village on Sopore-Kupwara road in Baramulla district early this morning to nab militants, official sources said.
Meanwhile, all educational institutions have been closed in apple township of Sopore, where mobile internet has also been snapped as a precautionary measure, official sources told UNI.
They said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Bradh, 3 km from main town Sopore on Kupwara road early this morning.
The entire area was sealed and residents were directed to remain indoor. Security forces have also been posted in strength outside the cordoned off area to prevent any demonstration as has been witnessing in other parts of the valley during operation against militants.
For precautionary measure the administrations has ordered closure of all educational institutions in Sopore today to prevent any law and order problem.
