Train service remained suspended for the second day today for security reasons in south Kashmir valley while trains will chug on Srinagar-Baramulla track.
Train service was suspended yesterday in the Kashmir valley for security reasons following strike called by both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), in protest against alleged attempts to abrogate Article 35-A of the constitution.
All train runs between Badgam-Srinagar in the central Kashmir to Anantnag-Qazigund in south to Banihal in Jammu region remained suspended for the second day today, a senior railway official told UNI this morning.
No train will run on this route, he said, adding that this decision was taken after a fresh advisory was received from authorities and police last night. Train service will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the authorities.
However, he said trains will chug between Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir and Baramulla in north.
During the past about two months, train service has been suspended frequently for security reasons in the valley, where train property had suffered damage due to demonstration.
Last year, train service remained suspended for about six months due to summer unrest in the valley.
However, daily travellers are the most affected due to suspension of train service which is now being considered most trusted, cheap and fast.
