Lok Sabha adjourned over Home Minister's remarks on attack on Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat

New Delhi
The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day today after Opposition members struck a defiant note on Home Minister Rajnath Singh's stance that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has not been using SPG protection during his foreign tour.
The issue figured in the House more than once with Congress floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge stating that the Opposition members should be allowed to make their statement on the issue.
"We cannot have a situation where only Home Minister says something," Mr Kharge said amid the din.
Several Congress members and lawmakers from Left parties and Trinamool Congress also supported
Mr Kharge. Trinamool leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay said, "Life of Rahul Gandhi is precious to
everyone...and the House should condemn the attack on him".
Amid the din, Congress members rushed to the Well carrying placards and raising anti-government slogans. Â Speaker Sumitra Mahajan insisted that the Home Minister has already made a statement earlier in the day during Question Hour. Mr Singh said Congress leader Mr Gandhi violated SPG security norms 100 times during 121 planned and unplanned visits during the past two years by refusing to travel in a bullet restraint car.
She allowed some members to raise matters during Zero Hour. However, as the bedlam continued,
the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
