Quran, Bible too placed at Kalam Statue
To silence the criticism surrounding the wooden statue of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, The Quran and The Bible too were placed at Kalam statue along with Bhagavat Gita, on Sunday.
Madurai
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kalam National Memorial and also unveiled a wooden statue of Kalam playing Veena on the occasion of second anniversary of Kalam at Peikarumbu near Rameswaram. Appreciating the design of the statue, the prime minister also learnt about the statue.
However criticisms soon crept up regarding the statue as Bhagavat Gita, one of the holy books of Hindus, was placed on the left side of the statue. The issue took a political turn as leaders like DMK Working President, Stalin, and MDMK leader, Vaiko, condemned placing Gita near Kalam statue sparking debates.
However, on Sunday, Kalam's Grandson, Saleem, placed The Quran and The Bible near Bhagavat Gita as a sign that Kalam does not belong to any one religion.Â
Speaking to DTNEXT, Saleem said that Kalam was a common man and does not belong to any one religion. He had Quran, Bible, Bhagavat Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata and Thirukural on his reading table.
On a daily basis he used to read Thirukural and while addressing the school students he would quote only the lines of Bharathiyar. He was a scientist and was above all religions.Â
So the political parties should stop politicising the issue and should stop indulging in controversies regarding Kalam requested Saleem.
