Search operation launched after firing near CRPF camp in Anantnag

Conflicting reports about the firing incident triggered panic in the area, where business and other activities were paralysed due to the strike called by separatists against the killing of three civilians allegedly in security force firing.

Official sources said that militants attacked a CRPF camp, housed in SICOP building, at Bijbehara in Anantnag. However, no damage was reported in the firing, they said, adding security forces had later launched a search operation in the area.

However, police said CRPF personnel fired shots after noticing some suspected activities near the camp.

Additional security forces from nearby camps immediately reached the area and a search operation was launched.
