College MD assaults student; booked
The Melmaruvathur police have registered a case against Senthil Kumar (40), son of Bangaru Adigalar and MD of Adhiparasakthi College of Engineering (APCE), Sakthi Kannan (24), a clerk and Jayamani (25), the legal adviser for the institution, following a complaint from Vijay, a fourth year chemical engineering student of the college and a resident of Tirunelveli.

According to sources, Vijay had recently posted comments regarding the lack of facilities and poor educational standards of the college on his Facebook page. Infuriated by this, Senthil Kumar two other staff of the college assaulted Vijay.
Many students of the college and his friends shared his post and supported Vijay’s view. Police said the management, which came to know about Vijay’s post, summoned the student to the college office and confronted him about his comments on FB.
“The complainant claimed that college MD Senthil Kumar, Sakthi Kannan and Jayamani abused and assaulted him. Based on the complaint we have registered an FIR but no one has been arrested so far,” Jeyakumar, inspector of Melmaruvathur police station told DT Next. He said arrests would be made if necessary.
“We have named three persons in the FIR against whom the student had lodged a complaint. Investigations are on,” the inspector added. Police have registered the case under IPC sections 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 147 (punishment for rioting), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation).
The student had to be hospitalised due to the seriousness of his injuries. He was first admitted to a private hospital and was later referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai.
The issue took a sensational turn when Vijay’s friends allegedly assaulted a senior medical PG student at the RGGGH following an argument and the doctors resorted to a flash strike blocking the road near Chennai Central. Protests by the doctors continued for the second consecutive day on Friday.
The Adhiparasakthi Engineering College, located at Melmaruvathur, is run by the Adhiparasakthi Seedhar Peetam and was founded by Bangaru Adigalar, who is referred to as ‘Amma’ by his devotees.
His wife Lakshmi Bangaru Adigalar is the vice president of the college and son Senthil Kumar is the MD. DTNext tried to contact the college authorities for their version, but neither the principal nor the administrative officer were available on the phone.
