Aung San Suu Kyi calls on President Pranab Mukherjee

"Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of the Republic of Myanmar called on Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday,'' the statement said. Earlier, Suu Kyi, Myanmar's State Counsellor and Foreign Minister, received a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, where she was greeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"It is a great pleasure for me to be back in India again especially in Delhi where I spent so many years. I look forward to better relationships between our two countries because every time I come back to India, I realise how close we are to one another, and how much I believe that our friendship will stand the test of time," she said during her welcome.

Suu Kyi arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a three-day visit to New Delhi. After attending the BRICS-BIMSTEC Outreach Summit in Goa, Ms Suu Kyi yesterday met Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her residence. She also met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Suu Kyi is accompanied by several ministers and senior officials and her visit will provide an opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest and seek to further strengthen the close and friendly ties that exist between the two countries.
