21 new districts come into existence, total goes up to 31
In a historic move, 21 new districts were added, taking the total number of districts to 31 in the country's youngest state of Telangana, on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra.

The new districts, formation of which was one of the poll promises of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in 2014 Assembly election, started functioning with the opening of district collectorates, offices of Superintendent of Police and other government offices.
The final notification of the new districts was issued late night, after the muhurtham for the notification and inauguration of new districts was fixed by Sringeri Siddhanti Sharma.
At a colourful function, Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao formally inaugurated Siddipet district at Ambedkar Bhavan in Siddipet town at the auspicious time of 11.13 am (Dhanur Lagnam).
More than 5,000 women welcomed Mr.Rao with 'Arathi' and about 1,000 artistes put up cultural items and thousands of balloons were released to mark the event.Â
Laddus were distributed to the people who attended the spectacular inaugural function.
Municipal Administration Minister K.T.Rama Rao inaugurated Sircilla district at the same muhurtham so did other Ministers, Assembly Speaker Madhusudhan Chary and Council Chairman Swami Goud the districts allotted to them.
