12-year-old girl raped, killed by cab drivers

The girl, who lived on the pavement with her family, was allegedly picked up from the streets in central Kolkata around 5 am on Wednesday. Her mother said she raised an alarm immediately. The police said the attackers — one drives an Ola cab — parked the car on the Park Circus flyover in South Kolkata and raped the child in the car. They allegedly drove a little further to a bridge, strangled her and threw her off the bridge into a canal. “We are still ascertaining details about the men who committed the crime,” said a senior officer of the Kolkata police, Akhilesh. Sources say the two men had been drinking near the city’s docks before they drove to Brabourne Road in central Kolkata and kidnapped the girl. Later in the evening, an Ola spokesperson said that the account associated with the cab had been “suspended”. The spokesperson said that the company would share any information to assist the officials probing  the incident.
