BJP leader expelled for 6 years; BSP protests in Lucknow, Delhi
With Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) activists thronging the state capital demanding arrest of BJP leader Dayashanker Singh for making derogatory remarks against party president Mayawati, the BJP has expelled him from the party for six years.

Party sources said on Thursday that the erstwhile BJP vice-president and in-charge of the state youth wing had been expelled from the party for six years. On Wednesday, Dayashanker was sacked from all the party posts by state president Keshav Prasad Maurya following a massive protest by BSP inside and outside Parliament.
Meanwhile, thousands of BSP leaders and activists on Thursday thronged the Hazratganj area after a demonstration in front of the Dr BR Ambedkar statue around 8 am. Activists and leaders from all over the state rushed to Lucknow on Thursday morning to join the agitation.
After a full day drama, UP police had on Wednesday lodged an FIR against Dayashanker Singh for his remarks against Mayawati. The FIR was registered on behalf of BSP national secretary Mewa Lal Gautam, who gave a two-page written complaint to Hazratganj police.
Dayashankar Singh had stated on Wednesday night that he had not said anything directly against the BSP chief.
“Whatever I said, I did it respectfully. She is a prominent woman leader and has been Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for four times. I have expressed regret for the statement, but what the BSP supremo said about my mother, sister and daughter in Rajya Sabha...she has insulted the women,” he said.
Mayawati Unimpressed
Unimpressed by BJP action against Dayashankar Singh, Mayawati said had the saffron party leaders filed an FIR against their leader for abusing her they would have “won her heart”. Talking to reporters outside Parliament on Thursday, Mayawati said removing Dayashankar from the party was a normal process. “It would have been better, had the party registered an FIR against him.” Her party waited till late night hoping that BJP leaders would themselves file a complaint against the expelled leader.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of BSP workers staged a protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding his immediate arrest. Raising slogans and placards against the BJP leadership, the protesters called BJP an anti-Dalit party and said the community was never likely to forgive the saffron party for this act. They even demanded death punishment for the expelled leader.
