Phase-II odd-even scheme comes into force today
With an aim of curbing rising pollution and reducing traffic congestion in the national capital, the Delhi Government today began the second phase of its ambitious odd-even car/vehicles driving scheme
New Delhi
Appealing to the people for making the initiative a success, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on micro-blogging site twitter, "Odd-even starts today..,..Let's all join hands and resolve to make it a  success."
Under this scheme, odd-numbered cars will ply on roads on odd dates and on even dates only cars with number plates that end in an even number can ply. However, the scheme will be applicable for a fortnight --- up to April 30 -- and the rule does not apply for Sundays.Â
CNG-operated vehicles, women drivers, chief ministers of states and vehicles with students will remain exempted from the restrictions of the second phase of the odd-even scheme.
The Delhi Chief Minister and his ministers will not be exempted from the 'odd-even' restrictions. Around 2500 personnel have been deployed at 200 points of the city with ex-servicemen assigned the task of patrolling inner streets.
The city is divided into 11 zones with 10 sectors in each zone for the programme and three teams of enforcement personnel have been deployed in each sector. A helpline, 011-411400400, was also launched by the Chief Minister for finding solutions to the problems of the people owing to the odd-even scheme.Â
The Delhi government is mulling over the idea of the odd-even scheme for 15 days every month. The Kejriwal-led government has advised students to take help of 'PoochhO Carpool' app.Â
The violators of this scheme have to pay a fine of Rs 2000 as per law. An additional number of trips will be added by the metro making it to 3248 trips per day. Extra security personnel will be deployed at the metro stations with an increase in  the number of ticket counters at the stations.
