Tarun Gogoi under EC radar over MCC violation
Allegations of violation of Model Code of Conduct have been raised against Assam CM Tarun Gogoi for conveying a press conference while polling for second phase election in the state is underway today
Guwahati
Mr Gogoi had called a press conference at 1000 hours this morning at a city hotel in his capacity as the Congress Legislative Party leader.
However, as polling for second and final phase state polls had got underway at 0700 hours this morning, the press conference had come under objection for alleged violation of model code of conduct.
The Kamrup (metro) district administration had reportedly sent an additional deputy commissioner to stop the press conference, but Mr Gogoi was adamant and had gone forward with the briefing.
He reportedly challenged the officials to arrest him if he had violated any rule and claimed the briefing was only to clear his position of certain issues raised against him.
Sources in the CEO, Assam, said the matter has been taken up by the Election Commission and whether the chief minister had violated the model code of conduct or not would be clarified after the EC had examined the matter in its entirety.
Meanwhile, television channels in the state have been asked by the office of the CEO not to telecast any clipping of the press conference addressed by the chief minister until further orders.
