Interstate drug cartel busted, five arrested

While two members of the gang, Balkar Singh (36) and Gurcharan Singh (35), were arrested on March 16 near Tajpur Road, another member of the drug cartel namely Manjeet Singh (40) was arrested on March 18 from Mukarba Chowk. 

A fourth member, Satnam Singh was arrested on March 18 from Bareilly where he had arrived to deliver heroin to his contact while the fifth member, a woman drug supplier namely Krishna Devi (55), was arrested from Nawansher, Punjab. 

A senior police official Wednesday said following a tip-off, they were keeping a tab on the activities of members of this drug cartel for last three months. During surveillance, it emerged that two drug peddlers namely Balkar Singh (36) and Gurcharan Singh (35) were recently released from Kapurthala Jail on bail in a drug smuggling case.  

After being released, the duo again started indulging in drug peddling. They allegedly collected consignments of heroin from Delhi and UP and supplied the same to various persons in Punjab, the official said. 

Both were arrested on March 16 near Tajpur Road while they were in a car and 3.5 kg heroin was recovered from them by sleuths. The official said their interrogation led to the arrest of another member of the drug cartel namely Manjeet Singh (40) on March 18 from Mukarba Chowk. 

One kg heroin was recovered from his possession, the police official added. After interrogation , Manjeet Singh disclosed that he had received the drug from Satnam Singh (42), a notorious drug supplier of Shahajanpur, UP, said Sanjeev Kumar, DCP, Special Cell. Two luxury cars and Eight mobile handsets, used in drug trafficking have also been seized.
