Chidamabaram says minor grammatical changes made in Ishrat Jahan affidavit
Former Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today tried to revert the BJP's attack on him over the Isharat Jahan affidavit issue, saying that the files relating to the case were seen by former home secretary GK Pillai atleast thrice, and wanted to know as to whose benefit the files had now gone missing.
New Delhi
Mr Chidambarm's remarks came as the NDA Government today formed a committee to fix responsibility for the disappearance of the files.
"And now they say those papers are missing. To whose advantage the vetted draft gone missing. To whose interest is to say that the draft is missing. I think the mystery has been unravelled now," he said in Mumbai in an obvious hit to Mr Pillai who claimed that it was during the tenure of Mr Chidambaram as home minister under UPA that an affidavit relating to LeT operative Ishart Jahan was changed to dilute her association with the terror outfit based in Pakistan.
Mr Chidambaram, however, admitted to have made changes in the Ishrat Jahan affidavit saying that as a lawyer, it was his habit to make some minor grammatical changes and that was what he did when the Ishart Jahan affidavit came to him.
"Tell me which part of the affidavit was wrong. The officer who said he did not know anything about the affidavit is on record in Guwahati in July 13, 2013 as saying that the second affidavit was perfectly justified," Mr Chidambaram said.
