NCP raises eyebrows over Parrikar criticising NGOs
The NCP in Goa has alleged that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar who has "shared stage with NGOs" on several occasions, was now criticising them.
"Parrikar during a recent function criticised NGOs. He has also asked the media not to indulge in negative publicity. We would like to remind Parrikar that these were same NGOs with whom he was sharing a stage once upon a time," NCP's Goa unit spokesman Trojano D'Mello said addressing a press conference today.
He alleged that Parrikar was at the forefront to oppose off-shore casinos in the state, Regional Plan and had also promised Lokayukta once in power.
"Now he finds the same demands as negative just because he is at the other side of the table," D'Mello said. During a function to lay foundation stone for parallel bridge on Zuari river near Panaji, Parrikar had blamed NGOs for their negative behaviour.
"Some people are upset over development of Goa. They are opposing everything that comes up in the state. We should be ready that they will even oppose this new parallel bridge," the senior BJP leader had said while appealing the media to make a new year resolution to publish only positive news.
D'Mello claimed that Parrikar, during his tenure asLeader of Opposition (in Goa Assembly), had promised people that his party would recover Rs 35,000 crore earned through illegal mining.
"He has forgotten all his promises. Now he is busy blaming others," the spokesman said.
