Golden moments for Team ISRO after success in 50th mission
The ISRO workhorse, the PSLV lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), here on Wednesday successfully with six satellites, including the Singapore’s TeLEOS-1
The 6 satellites were placed in their respective orbits 21 minutes after life off.
The launch as part of the PSLV-C29 mission was done from the first launch pad at SDSC at 6 pm. It may be noted that ISRO’s Mission Readiness Review (MRR) committee and Launch Authorisation Board (LAB) cleared the 59-hour countdown for the mission on December 14 at 7 a.m.
PSLV in its 32nd flight (PSLV-C29) placed six satellites from Singapore into a 550 km circular orbit. Of these six satellites, TeLEOS-1 is the primary satellite weighing 400 kg. TeLEOS-1, designed and developed by ST Electronics was placed in a low earth orbit for remote sensing applications.
This is Sriharikota’s 50th mission, the first having been undertaken in August 1979 when SHAR was still a fledgling unit. For the first time, SHAR plans to reignite the engine after placing all the 6 satellites in orbit after the 4th stage was jettisoned. The lift off was visible due to a clear sky.
The rocket’s initial steady acceleration of 7.07 kilometres per second enabled it to reach the anticipated altitude on time. The launch was witnessed by representatives of the Singapore firms whose satellites, PSLV carried into space. ISRO chairman Kiran Kumar congratulating the mission control team members on the successful launch said that the 50th mission coincided with Singapore’s 50th year of independence.
