Rahul writes to Ponnammal’s granddaughter, condoles death
All India Congress Vice-President and Lok Sabha MP, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday condoled the death of former party MLA from Tamil Nadu A S Ponnammal who passed away here on Tuesday and said she had served the party with distinction.

Expressing grief over the demise of Ponnammal in a letter to her granddaughter, copy of which was released to the media here by Tamil Nadu Unit of the Party, Rahul said in her demise, the Congress Party has lost one of its Senior Leaders from Tamil Nadu.
“She (Ponnammal) served the party and people of the state with great distinction in the course of her long career.”
Rahul also said Ponnammal had worked tirelessly for the weaker sections of the socity and for women’s rights. Her loss will be deeply mourned by the Congress Party and her many supporters and well-wishers. “I was grieved to learn of the sad passing away of your grandmother Mrs A S Ponnammal. I can well imagine your anguish and sorrow at losing her,” wrote Rahul Gandhi.
In his letter, the Vice President of All India Congress further wrote, “Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of grief.”
