Delhi govt to bring Kalam’s legacy to the national capital

The No 10 Rajaji Marg bungalow in Delhi, occupied by Former President APJ Abdul Kalam till his death in July, has been allotted to Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma, a move which had drawn flak from various quarters, including AAP. But now, the Delhi Government wants to ensure that the late President’s legacy is respected and given the rightful honour. Kapil Mishra, the Minister of Water, Tourism, Art, Culture and Languages (Government of Delhi), recently announced that based on Dr Kalam's family’s consent letter to the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, the goverment has decided to bring Dr. Kalam’s legacy, books and possessions to New Delhi. 

The Delhi government is ready to bring back all of Dr.Kalam’s books and possessions that were sent away from his 10, Rajaji Marg residence in Delhi. Officials from the Ministry of Art and Culture will soon visit Dr Kalam’s house in Rameswaram to assess the quantity of his possessions and books. 

Also, a day after a nephew of APJ Abdul Kalam resigned from BJP, the late president’s grand-nephew APJ MJ Sheik Saleem today said he continued to be a loyal worker of the party. Saleem, said a section of the media had “wrongly” quoted him saying he had resigned. “I continue to be a loyal worker of BJP,” he said in a release. “I have informed the offices of BJP president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the news (about resignation) has been wrongly attributed”, he said. “I have joined BJP two months back and I am doing my share of work without any publicity,” he said.
