Kargil records coldest night as mercury dips to minus 5.5 degree

The border town of Kargil in Ladakh region recorded the coldest night of the season so far after the mercury dipped and settled at minus 5.5 degree celsius while the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg with minus 3.8 degree was the coldest place in Kashmir valley.Â
A Met department spokesperson said the  Valley will receive isolated rain while Jammu and Ladakh regions will be mainly dry during the next 24 hours. He said the night temperature further dipped in Kargil and settled at minus 5.5 degree, recording the coldest night of the season so far. Earlier, the coldest night recorded in Kargil was minus 5 degree on November 8. Yesterday the mercury dipped to minus 3.9 degree.
There was a marked improvement in the night temperature in Leh though it was still below freezing point. Against minus 5.9 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature was minus 0.1 degree.
There was a slight dip in the night temperature in Gulmarg as the mercury dipped and settled at minus 3.8 degree, against minus 3.6 degree recorded yesterday. People woke up to a sunny morning here though the weather was still chilly due to icy cold winds.
The summer capital also witnessed a dip in the night temperature. Against 4 degrees recorded yesterday, it was recorded 2.8 degree, which is about 1.8 degree above normal. The mercury in the world famous health resort of Pahalgam also plunged and settled at minus 0.3 degree, against 0.6 degree recorded yesterday.
The spokesperson said Quazigund, the gateway to  Valley, witnessed some improvement in the night  temperature. Against 3.4 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature was 4 degree, which is 3 notches above normal. Another health resort of Kokernag witnessed some improvement in the night temperature while Kupwara in north Kashmir witnessed a dip in the mercury. Kokergan recorded 5.2 degree; against 4.4 degree while Kupwara witnessed 1.6 degree, against 2.8 degree recorded yesterday.Â
