Successful Tamil film director Vetrimaaran shared that he was detained at Delhi Airport for not knowing Hindi in 2011.

He tells that he was apprehended by an airport official for not knowing Hindi where the official said 'how could you not know your mother tongue', for which the director said 'My mother tongue is Tamil and for communication purposes I use English'.

Things grew unsavoury with the official saying 'this is the problem with you guys, Tamilians and Kashmiris break the country' the Asuran director unrelentingly argued asking how is he breaking the country by speaking his mother tongue.

Vetrimaaran shared this harrowing incident to the popular Tamil magazine Vikatan that happened during National awards when Dhanush-starrer Aadukalam won laurels. He had to stay put at the airport for 45 minutes.

This heated argument was pacified by the film's producer Kathiresan and music director GV Prakash who accompanied the director.

The national award winning director's confession gains a lot of traction as it comes after DMK's Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi decried a similar discrimination against her at the Chennai airport.

On the work front, Vetrimaaran is working on a project with comedian Soori which will be followed by Vaadivaasal with Suriya. He also said he is working on a script for 'Thalapathy' Vijay and that he awaits the Master star's green signal.
