Sathyaraj was to play dad in Bigil, till Vijay stepped in

The first look poster of Bigil, which had Vijay in young and old makeovers, went on to become a rage on social media. Speculations were rife that one of the characters will feature during the flashback portions and Vijay plays the role of Michael a gangster-turned-footballer.

However, we have some exclusive updates from a source close to Bigil, who told DT Next, “Vijay plays dual roles that of a father and son in the film. The story is set in the backdrop of north Chennai where Vijay plays a fisherman.” That is not the end of the story. “Director of the film Atlee had plans to rope in Sathyaraj to play the character of Vijay’s character of Michael. He was indeed approached by Atlee to play the role. However, after listening to the story, Vijay expressed his desire to play the father character as well, to which Atlee agreed,” the source added. Atlee is known for showing Vijay in different makeovers in his films. In Theri, Vijay had two different looks and in Mersal Vijay was seen sporting a rural look in the flashback sequences and a regular look in the modern-day portions.
