Girls, ditch that dark lipstick already: Ojas Rajani

Like the fairy god mother who transforms Cinderella from rags to a beautiful princess, Ojas Rajani creates magic with her brush, which is no less than a wand, on every face that she touches. 

In the city recently for a workshop at Page 3 salon where she recreated Deepika Padukone’s look from Padmaavat, she feels it will be a big trend this year. She says, “The new-age bride knows what she wants. She understands her skin and knows what works best for her. Because, they understand that a decade later, they wouldn’t want their kids to react the same way they did when they say their mother’s wedding makeup. Even I thought my mother’s makeup was hideous.”

Speaking about the trends that will make a statement this year, she says, “Pale lips are back. The dewy finish look will be big this year. But yes, girls, please get rid of that dark lipstick already. We’ve had enough of it. It’s way over the top.” She adds, “But we will see men embracing makeup. Even when I go for weddings, the men want to look as good as their brides and not like they’ve walked out of a trash can. So, yes, we will see men using a lot of compact powder and concealers this year.”

Ojas has worked with some of the biggest names in cinema, with Aishwarya Rai calling her an all-time favourite. She has also worked with stars in the south film industry. “Tamannaah is the best here. She has lovely skin and can pull of any look. I’ve been working with her from the time she was just taking baby steps as a model,” she adds.

Makeup apart, Ojas has also tried her hand at acting with Shankar’s I starring Vikram. However, she faced a lot of negative criticism for her portrayal. “It was never meant to offend anyone. Why would I do something that would offend my own community? Having said that, I’m done with acting for now.

My focus has, is and always will be makeup. But it’s important for people from the community who are influential to come out and make themselves visible and give others the confidence to follow suit.”
