Beauty trends that will transform 2018

When it comes to beauty, the start of another calendar year entails a revamp and update of cosmetics haul. As 2017 just faded into the rear-view, it’s time to start looking at what 2018 will bring to our beauty routines.

We’ve seen metallic lips, glitter lips, marble lips and even lip contouring. Now, get set for the glossiest lip finish of all with a futuristic twist. Holographic lips will be one of the year’s biggest trends. And you don’t have to be a makeup artist like Ralph Siciliano to create an otherworldly, iridescent look at home. Magical highlighters, lipsticks, pigments, and more have recently launched in a rainbow of prismatic hues.

From eye popping 3D unicorn designs to fruity inspired glosses, we saw a lot of nail art last year. However, 2018 could be the year that we see it all go back to bare. A plain, nude look seems to be the most likely choice for this season.

Expect to see anti-pollution skincare ranges multiply thanks to ever-rising pollution levels. Brands are also working on products that fight other environmental skin stressors including air conditioning and heating, captive bacteria (found in closed buildings and public transport) and the blue light from computer screens.

In the last few years, we’ve witnessed both clothes and scents swapped and exchanged amongst genders. But makeup? Not so much. However, 2018 will see gender neutral beauty trends take centrestage.
